SAND DUNES � On Sunday, July 3, Park Ranger Larry McGough will lead a free guided hike to South Twin Lake, a large wetland west of Great Sand Dunes. Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center, and will return to the Visitor Center about noon. Bring water, sun protection, insect repellant, and a snack. ALAMOSA � The Kiwanis Club of Alamosa is hosting its 37th Annual Kiwanis Kowboy Breakfast fund-raiser at the SLV Federal Bank parking lot before and during the Independence Day Parade on Monday, July 4 from 7-10 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Main and La Due and will continue west to Alamosa Avenue. Fireworks will round out the day at dusk at the fairgrounds. CREEDE � Colorado State Mining Championship Days of �92 mining events continue with team jackleg drilling at 9 a.m., spike driving at 11 a.m., machine mucking at 1 p.m. and double jack team hand steeling at 2:30 p.m. Vendors will be out, and the Elks will host a beer garden. The parade on the theme �Blue Moon Over Mountains� begins at 10 a.m. in Creede. Children�s activities will follow the parade in the ball park. Fireworks are that evening. CRESTONE � Crestone�s July 4th events begin at 8 a.m. with the 5 Kilometer Run, Walk or Crawl Race at Curt�s Olde Fashioned Store. From 10-11 a.m. children accompanied by adults may visit Creation Station to decorate themselves for the parade. The parade will be at noon. At 12:30 p.m. get soaked by the volunteer firefighters at the Town Park. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. vendors with food, merchandise and ideas will be set up in Little Pearl & Artisans Parks. Annual Crestone Indie 600 (foot) Soap Box Derby is 2 p.m.
