Last time these two sides met was one of the matches of the tournament as the sides put on a display of fast-paced running rugby. The Reds got off to a flyer, notching up a 24-point lead before the Blues came back scoring some sensational tries. In the end both teams scored four tries a piece with only the boot of Quade Cooper separating the two sides.

With that experience in mind the Blues will be all too aware of the dangers of letting this explosive Reds side get away on them.

In the Blues favour is their superior finals pedigree over the Reds who have their first trip to the post-season in ten years. No member of their side has ever played a playoff match for the Reds and the franchise is yet to win a semifinal in their 16-year history.

In contrast, the Blues have already had to experience the pressure of a playoff match this season and most of the team has experience in previous seasons either in 2003 or 2007.

However the Reds have a squad near full strength with the week off, earned by their consistent play this season, giving their injured players an opportunity to fully recover. Digby Ioane, Anthony Fainga'a and Beau Robinson all return to action after spells on the sideline.

The Blues are boosted by the return of wing Rene Ranger. He is the type of player who can tear a game like this wide open with his powerful running and explosiveness. It is not yet known whether he'll start or provide impact off the bench, but either way he'll be a man giving the Reds' defence nightmares in the lead-up to the match.

The injury to lock Anthony Boric however is a big loss as the All Black had just started to play some of his best rugby. Along with Ali Williams he was strong last week against the Waratahs as they dominated the set-piece. Stop-gap lock Chris Lowery has proved solid enough in his few performances there, but the onus will fall to Williams to take control in this area.

Rain is forecast in Brisbane tomorrow night, but neither of these teams are likely to alter their attacking styles on account of the weather. They will kick at their peril with their opposition more than willing to counter-attack from long range and each side possessing more than enough attacking weapons to be deadly.

Key: The forwards. Even with a few injuries the Blues boast an impressive pack with 201 Test caps between them. The Reds pack, while an improvement on recent years, have only 45 Tests to their name. That gulf in experience and their in-form set piece should be enough to give the Blues dominance in this area.
