Mgm Returns To Making Cartoons
MGM, once the home of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera's Tom and Jerry characters and a slew of additional cartoon creatures created by the likes of Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, and Bob Clampett, is getting back into the business of animation. Daily Variety reported that the studio will produce a feature-length animated movie, Punk Farm as its second in-house project since emerging from bankruptcy. Directed by David Silverman, best known for his work on The Simpsons TV series and The Simpsons Movie , the feature is based on a children's book about five barnyard animals who form an "underground rock band," according to Variety , using a term rarely heard since the 1970s. The movie will be the first animated feature for MGM since All Dogs Go to Heaven in 1989 and its sequel, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 in 1996, which had mediocre theatrical releases but were big sellers on home video.
