Central Sports and Rec: Eddie Shannon Basketball Camp held July 23

Two players from the Palm Beach Juniors volleyball program were named AAU Junior National All-Stars during the 14s division 2011 National AAU Tournament at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. Devin Rohack of Lake Worth, is a setter who will be an eighth-grader at Woodlands Middle School, and Kirsten Nowak of Lake Worth, is a middle hitter who will be a freshman at Suncoast High School, and both were selected for the national honor. Their team finished third overall at the tournament. A second Palm Beach Juniors 14s team finished 25th overall in the tournament's National Classic Division.

Second Annual Eddie Shannon Basketball Camp will be held 8 a.m.-3 p.m. July 23 at Palm Beach Lakes High School. Fee for ages 5-18 is $20. Twenty kids and their mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties were among those who took part in the fourth annual Grand Slam Kid's Fishing Day tournament on June 11. They were on four Jupiter charter boats – Black Dog, Mystic Rose, Red Beard and Samana – and were among 28 boats, and 116 kids, who participated in the morning tournament at Castaways in Jupiter.

Marqueshia Stallworth, a 2010 graduate of Seminole Ridge High School, finished third in the triple jump in the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 25 in Eugene, Ore. Stallworth, a freshman at the University of South Florida, had a best jump of 40 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

Jeanine Seeger of Greenacres had the fastest women's time in Race 6 of the West Palm Beach Time Trial Series on June 26. Fifty cyclists (31 men, 16 women, one junior, and one mixed tandem team) competed in the 15K event at 20-Mile Bend, west of Loxahatchee. Remaining 15K races are Sunday, Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 16. Lake Worth Christian School is offering summer sports camps for boys and girls in grades 3-12. Camps include basketball soccer Monday -July 14 (grades 3-12) and volleyball July 25-28 (grades 6-12) and Aug. 1-4 (grades 6-12). Camps run daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $140 per week.
