Instead of pen and paper, suppose you are recording your professor’s lecture using your laptop/notebook, and the lectures are linear algebra and you want to symbolize matrices and vectors. Suppose you use a simple text editor like Notepad: how do you represent these objects (notations?) Or do you use an application that allows all kinds of math symbols?
i would suggest doing it by pen and paper. even if you master typing all those symbols, there’s still the idea of ??drawing examples (for example, if you were doing the “foil” method, you’d want to draw the lines of what to distribute) and if you get into geometry or calc, you’d have to draw objects like triangles and circles and such. i just think itd be a waste of time, math is the one subject that you really need to take notes by hand
If you have Microsoft Office, you can use Equation Editor in Microsoft Word. Alternatively, you can use spaces and braces for a matrix, with the braces being the beginning and end of the matrix. . . [Abcd] But, honestly, the typing and all will take up too much time to follow along. You’re better off using pen / pencil and paper. If you desperately want an electronic copy of stuff, then scan it afterward. But I WOULD NOT recommend using a computer when taking math notes.
