Treacy born for milking

TED Treacy has been the backbone of South Gippsland's fertile dairy industry for 40 years, writes SIMON PINDER

Ted, 64, who has spent 40 years installing and servicing milking machines in South Gippsland , now lets his son Wayne, 35, do most of the onsite work.

Together with his wife, Lucy, Ted owns Treacy Dairy Supplies, which has been operating in South Gippsland since 1970.

Ted's dairying days began early, working on his parent's farm in County Laois, central Ireland.

But it took a visit from a mechanic when he was a teenager to set him on his path: he pitched in to help the mechanic repair the family's milking machine and afterwards got a call from the mechanic's employer.

Ted was offered a job as an apprentice milking machine technician.

For three years, Ted learned how to install milking systems before he decided to travel abroad to Australia.

He worked for the then Alfa Laval dairy equipment company, which the Swedish-based DeLaval Company now owns.

Finally while your setup cost $15 you can get compressors used for as little as free used from a junked unit many people put out with the trash.

i dont know about canada but here in american many people just throw away junk ac units with their trash so it can be a source for free parts.

r134a can be bought 6 to 15 oz at a time at your auto parts store but there may be a limit of how much you can get because of abuse and licensing.

6. the windings of the refrigerator and ac are different enough that ac requires a capacitor where as a refrigerator can work with relay.

7. if the noise of the compressor bothers you you can enclose it in a box of some sort and not have to run both stages.

8. it may be a good idea to leave the thermal and overload protector in place.

9. in your case you can set the compressor into a 5 gallon or 18.927059 liter bucket for you metric viewers and fill with water because water can cool good

3. like i said earlier about hvac companies you can probably get an old junk house unit to get the scroll compressor from.

4. refrigerator compressors contain start and run windings too they are hidden behind a terminal cover and there is a relay that does the switching.

5. all compressors refrigerator and ac will not start under load try unplugging or turning off the refrigerator or ac while it is running and turn it back on or plug it back in and you will hear it hum and click off.
