Frameline Festival headlined the new movie, “Bob’s New Suit ” which featured  Jenny Shimizu , whom I am sure many in the audience recognized as the cover girl of the most prestigious fashion magazines for the past 20 years.  The movie had its World Premiere at San Francisco’s Castro Theater this month before an enthusiastic audience. In this story of a dysfunctional family, politics, gender identity, rare orchids and one lonely Italian suit come together in this interwoven story about the legacy of the 1960s and the unexpected changes as they move into the twenty-first century.

In a phone interview with Jenny Shimizu in New York, she said she grew up in a very traditional Japanese family where her parents ran the family pharmacy in Santa Maria, California.  Looking at her beauty now, it is hard to believe her childhood dream was to be a mechanic and own a garage. However, a twist of fate came when a casting director saw her saddling her motorcycle outside a L.A. nightclub and introduced her to Calvin Klein. From there came a modeling career spanning a decade, television and movie acting career, and presently, a modeling agent job for Women Model Agency , a top agency in New York which managed her own career in the 1990s. Although she recognizes the modeling field is open to Asians more so than when she was one of the first to crack open the field, she says it is a very difficult profession with many ups and downs. One has to be not only photogenic, but be emotionally secure enough to know the competition is high and the rewards do not come quickly or easily. Jenny was given the Philadelphia International Gay and lesbian Film Festival 2006 Lesbian Icon Award , and still remains an avid motorcycle rider.

Brandon Spikes Named to Lott Trophy Watch List

Spikes, who earned All-American honors as a junior team captain in 2008, is one of 42 of the nation’s top defensive players to be included on the Watch List for The Lott Trophy, which includes the top defensive players who have had the biggest IMPACT on their teams on and off the field. IMPACT stands for integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.
