Fishing Around Tampa Bay

2 - At Madeira Beach, bottom fishing for red grouper, scamp and doormat flounder pretty decent, said Capt. Jason Lineberger. But gag grouper out of season, and red snapper, which are biting better than anything, are way out at 120-160 feet. Lineberger catching large hogfish in 60 feet.

3 - At John's Pass, small catch-and-release snook early mornings in swash channels along beach. But snook have been slow at night under lighted docks throughout Boca Ciega Bay, said Brent Howlett.

4 - At Fort DeSoto Park, catch-and-release snook decent at night on live bait around lighted docks and passes, reports Brent Howlett at Stone's Outhouse. Pompano still in play around passes and bridges on Doc's Jigs. New moon tides could spark tarpon bite around Egmont Hole, but tarpon have been so-so for past week.

5 - Around the Sunshine Skyway and lower Tampa Bay, flats fishing fair between thunderstorms this week. Capt. Shawn Crawford of Lakeland (941-747-3856) reports releasing a dozen small snook 25 inches and under along with five oversized redfish and a nice limit of trout up to 22-23 inches on greenbacks Monday. Crawford said rain and cloud cover dropped water temperature on flats from 89 Saturday to 81 on Monday, possibly shocking fish, which changed typical locations. Bait has also changed, with new spawn of smaller greenbacks requiring smaller mesh net. Tarpon anglers hoping new moon tides perk up bite around bridge and out to Egmont.

6 - At Anna Maria, tarpon still around off beaches but more spread out, said Capt. Shawn Crawford, although new moon today could bunch them up around passes again. Crawford had good luck offshore Saturday at 23 miles, or 80 feet, with limits of red grouper (20-inch minimum, two per person) on dead bait to start (ladyfish, cigar minnows, threads) then switching to live bait when bite started slowing. Also mangrove snapper and amberjacks, which are out of season. Crawford said fishing edges of fish marked on recorders over Swiss cheese bottom producing better size red grouper. He's chumming mangroves up off bottom for hookups to keep them away from goliath grouper. The Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Festival runs off the beaches out of Sarasota through Sunday.

7 - At St. Petersburg, catch-and-release snook along outer bars at Cockroach Bay and along south shore on greenbacks. For the table, there's pompano around range markers and mangrove snapper around Gandy Bridge and artificial reefs. Trout best bet on deeper flats, with Pinellas Point and Weedon Island two good spots.

Twilight Zone (2002): Overview and episodes 1 through 6

Casual in the sense of 'by chance' & debris meaning 'remains,' 'leftovers' or otherwise scattered bits. These are obscure or forgotten works that I happen to have stumbled upon. I collect dusty, tattered anthologies as well obscure modern ones, so I frequently encounter neglected authors & out-of-print works. While many are truly forgettable, it would be nice if some were brought back into circulation, if only to have available something a little different. began a trend of presenting Rod Ser ling on-screen for the episode introductions. That same concept was borrowed here, hiring the talented Forest Whitaker as host. Whitaker was unfortunately not a great host, yet I would blame this not on the actor, but on production. While Serling was often filmed on set, sometimes filmed post production with a blurry camera pan making it appear he was amid the action, Whitaker was pasted onto the screen, photoshopped if you will, sometimes a little too obviously. Particularly during rain, grasping a useless umbrella. Likely his ultra brief intros were filmed in a studio over the course of a day or two, and the effect comes across as cheap. Of course times are different, and while Serling was fully invested in , Whitaker was an employee and obviously wasn't expected to be on set. Moreover, writing for the host post was not done with Whitaker in mind, but rather the gruff, oddly eloquent and aggressively charismatic chimney that was Serling. Whitaker sounds too gentle quoting lines like "Chalk one up for the good guy," (S1E10) whereas phrases like these came off of Serling's tongue so naturally that they never felt written. Whitaker should have been considered more, and the intros and episodes would have been more effective as a result. I am glad that a talented black actor was hired to fill Serling's shoes, since the racial aspect is appropriate, in line with is a "safe" one, an attempt to find fresh viewers while bringing in those adamantly faithful to the original by maintaining elements of the original show, such as the twist ending and, well, maybe only the twist ending. Everything about the episode is generic, from the basic premise to the story-line, the dialogue and stock characters, some of whom are completely non-descript, and you wonder why they are even there. They are there simply for plot progression purposes, of course, so that we can be guided to that final twist.
